I was putting the finishing touches on the close of a major sale. It was strictly a routine day in the life of a man making a living for his family. Nothing was perceived special, nor was anything detected as different when I shook the hand of a satisfied, smiling customer. Wishing him the best he turned to leave and I was instantly overcome with sickness.
To be fine one minuet, and deathly ill the next consumed my thought process as I went to my manager to request an immediate leave. Granted, I left for the long ride ahead to my mountain home. I could only think of one thing, and that was to get into bed and sleep off this horrible sickness. That is exactly what I did.
I was taken by a dream to a place white with mist, as if I was standing on a cloud. I saw a figure emerging slowly and recognized her as that of my aged mother. She stood before me silent, with a look of sorrow etched in the lines of her face. Without a word she raised her arm and extended her hand to gently touch my cheek.
As I looked at her hand I recoiled slightly. That was not the hand of my mother, but I did know whom it belonged to. It was my aunt Rosily. What could this mean, I wondered?
It was then that the telephone rang loudly from the table just inches from my head lying upon a pillow. The dream vanished in swirling wisps of smoke as I reached for the telephone.
“Hello?”
there was a short pause and then I heard, “Son?”
It was but one word and I knew the voice was that of my mother, and the news she was about to give was not good.
She continued, “Your aunt Rosily just passed away.”
We exchanged condolences and as I hung up the receiver to the phone realized my sickness was miraculously gone. I lay still for the longest time and just stared at the telephone with old episodes of the “Twilight Zone” racing through my head.
Was it just a coincidence? Was it a message from God? Telepathy? Or, was it a telephone call from beyond the grave?
This I do know… it happened to me. It never left me with a feeling of fear; therefore I believe it was from God. Maybe it was just to let me know He is greater than the little box we may keep Him in… What do you think?
To this day when the telephone rings I may ask myself who’s is really on the other side of the line?
