God dressed the day in shades of gray,
His mood seemed melancholy.
Prod gloom and cold I started to pray,
Why does He speak no folly?
The streets were wet with dew so thick,
I remember most intently,
That fog rolled in as I observed,
But madam called for her Bentley.
She seemed secure, undaunted by gloom,
As I took the drivers seat,
And questioned her, “Where to, madam?”
“Anywhere.” Her words… complete.
Drive toward the ocean, that was my notion,
My plans were less than pure,
She’ll loathe this day, being covered by spray,
And we’ll be home by noon for sure.
As we passed the pier she started to cheer,
And ordered me to stop.
“I’ll get out here, follow me dear.”
My chin proceeded to drop.
“Madam, are you sure?” I inquired of her,
“You’re dressed in satin and silk.”
“We’ll be immature, build sandcastles and purr,
Like cats after fresh bowls of milk!”
Letting out a sigh, I thought a man such as I,
Should not endeavor in games,
I’m respected am I not, for this is not Camelot?
Yet, beauty still reigned just the same.
Innocently she smiled, and played like a child,
And I… was a stick in the mud,
On this foul dismal morn, she was not so forlorn,
But I was somewhat of a dud.
I stood by her side, and watching the tide,
It rolled in and soaking her wet,
She was shocked with surprise, and opened her eyes,
So wide, my laughter begets.
She laughed back at me, and I was set free,
To frolic, and play like a fool,
“Madam, you’re a sight!” She admitted, “You’re right.”
And she sat in her watery pool.
I kicked off my shoes, and rolled up my pants,
In sea foam I started to dance,
Then God spoke, color and hue, and light, yes it’s true,
And the day… became a day of romance.
We stayed, and we played, and we laughed, and we cried,
For joy was granted those days,
With madam and the sea, we both could agree,
That God was seeking our praise.
Let each day have its way, and come what may,
Let His glory show from your heart,
And soon you will find, in this manner of time,
Each happy ending must have its start.
