Topic: Confused (08/16/07)
Did you ever drive on a thruway, realizing your exit was coming up next, and then go right past the exit as if it was never there? Talk about getting confused.

Years ago, I had to make a trip to a town about two hours distant. I was a driver who drove out of necessity, not because I liked to drive, and I never went by myself.

This particular time I had asked a church friend to accompany me. We arrived at our destination, I transacted my business, and we headed home. We were busy talking, and I breezed right past my exit, and had gone several miles before I realized my mistake.

Now there was another problem facing me. Getting lost was not uncommon for me. I knew we had to take the next exit because the further we drove the further away from home we were going. So I took the next exit, but then where was I? Did we have to turn left or right? My companion couldn’t help me. She didn’t even drive.

I decided to turn right, since I was right-handed. What did that have to do with it? It was as good a guess as I could make, but another fifteen miles told me it was a bad guess. We passed nothing familiar. I was lost.

I decided to turn around, but when I turned the corner to turn back, we were on a one way street – going the wrong way. I could only go the wrong way. Finally we came to an intersection, I turned right, turned right on the next street, and kept on going, until we arrived at the entrance to the thruway, turned right – again – and managed to take the next exit where we turned left, and we were finally on our way home.

After the fact, we laughed about my confusion – but it was certainly not funny to me while it was happening.

The first lines drew me in. A cute story. Indeed, we all have been there.

The topic was deffintely nailed down. Good telling of the event.

I was, however, waiting for something as an individual reader that never came in the story for me. Something to unfold that never did.

Sounds so familiar it could have been one of the many times this has happened to me. Since I'm still not sure exactly what you did, I figure you captured the topic well!

I wonder if you are still having this problem today? Rule of thumb, if you miss your exit and up at the next one you will eventually get back to the right exit if you keep making rights, but the fastest way is turn left and one more left will take you back the way you came and the first exit is yours, EASY! This is a problem that is easily resolved. The telling was fun though.
