I walked in church and he was there,
My ideal man with the golden hair.
His beautiful voice it thrilled me through,
I was only twelve, thought he’s not for you.
But each time I went, I found him there
So sweetly taking requests for prayer.
I raised my hand, prayer for my dad,
Our eyes would meet, his sweet but sad.
I kneeled at the altar, he pray’d from above,
I found myself praying for this man’s love.
Yes praying to be this preachers wife,
Together serve God throughout our life.
Each year at camp he was there,
My singing preacher with the golden hair.
One Sabbath evening, he smiled at me,
He had my love, he could plainly see.
I loved everything about this man,
His voice, his eyes, his healing hands.
The sweet, gentle look that shines from his face,
Showing a Christian full of God’s grace.
I dreamed each night as I laid in my bed,
This fellow I loved would ask me to wed.
The years went by and we met again,
I was washing the dishes, when he came in.
I was so nervous, as he walked to the sink,
I trembled all over, could hardly think.
That night at church I knelt in prayer,
Thanking God we were both there.
I ask God again, for this man’s love,
As I knelt at the altar, he knelt from above.
I knew that year that he was mine,
The answer was given, the sign devine.
The seventh night, a number complete,
My very first kiss, from him so sweet.
The touch of his lips I can feel it still,
My heart was pounding, it didn’t seem real.
The time has come, our vows we share,
Together in life, he’s always there.
We’ll cherish each other come what may
And share our burdens along the way.
We’ll kneel together beside our bed
Thanking our Father that we are wed.
Then give to Him our all in all,
We’ll answer Him gladly, whenever the call.
