This thought reminded me of a recent episode with my 7-year-old granddaughter. Gracie absolutely loves the cartoon character, Scooby Doo. Because of her fondness for this guy, I display a Scooby Doo air freshener dangling from the rear view mirror in my Explorer.
On the way back home from a trip to Atlantic, Gracie realized that Scooby’s odor protection was no longer working. She knew that I had purchased a back up Scooby who was resting comfortably inside the glove compartment. She reached up and yanked the old Scooby from the mirror as she said, “Maw Maw, I think it is time to replace this Scooby, don’t you?” Then she reached inside the glove compartment. She found the new Scooby and quickly ripped the package open. What she did next was outrageously funny.
As soon as she tore into the air freshener package, she exclaimed, “Wow Scooby, you are too excited!” Then she continued with, “Maw Maw, we are going to have to put him in here until he calms down a bit,” as she opened the console and stuffed him inside. “Boy is he excited to get out of that bag!” she said as she waved her small hand in a fanning motion over her cute little face. This action was hilarious and I busted out laughing! Where this child came up with her ideas is beyond me, I thought shaking my head.
But, then as the excitement of the moment passed and we were riding through the countryside down east, I began to see the parallel for us, as Christians. You see, we need to be more like Scooby Doo and Chris too, for that matter, as we excitedly carry the good news and permeate the sweet aroma of Jesus Christ throughout the world today.
But my life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus--the work of telling others the Good News about God's wonderful kindness and love. Acts 20:24 (NLT)
