For some it is merely a rite of passage, a lesson to be learned, practiced and finished with at the termination of formal education. For others it is an obsession, an innate need, a therapy for the many maladies life bestows.
I am such a person. Diseased, or is it dis-eased? I need the remedies writing brings: clarity, peace, resolve, even redemption.
I am not alone. I walk in the company that has gone before. Men and women from ancient times onward who were compelled to record their triumphs and tragedies, delights and disappointments, reflection and revulsion. I gain strength from their writings, insights from their honesty and renewed vigour to carry on in the writing life.
Be it poetry, stories or glimpses of God’s glory that I record I write in the hope that when I am no longer physically on this earth I will have left a trail for my children and others to follow. An encouragement to keep putting pen to paper, key to monitor or whatever future invention awaits to capture the imaginations of generations to come.
