He's got this silly laugh and doughy mid section, and he is pretty cute, but he's simply not my style.
I have been an avid baker since I was 10, and having the Doughboy introduced into my later life presented quite a dilemma. Should I go modern or stay old-fashioned. While the grannies of the 50's were baking from scratch, the grannies of today are baking with prepared ingredients. This is simply adultery to me. I'm cheating myself by giving in to this little man always being introduced into my life. I revolt against you Pillsbury Doughboy.
While I admit I have often entered the Pillsbury Bake-Off and have never been chosen, it might be because I have not gotten used to the easy route of using you myself.
I don't feel guilty about this, as in a strange kind of way, the old-fashioned way of baking has brought me closer to my Heavenly Father and to the meaning of giving love through using my talent of baking.
When I bake from scratch, it gives me a sense of belonging to a world less commercialized. When I measure my ingredients, and use my hands, I slowly watch the emerging of a wondrous finished product that I diligently spent precious time envisioning and creating to my standard of perfection. Granny Ellen's original and homemade wonders are my contributions to a lost, old-fashioned art. I am chosen of God to keep baking alive.
Baking may be a lost art to many, but every time I bake, it becomes a newfound delight to my inner creativity. It's my gift of showing my loved ones that I care enough to give them a time-consuming effort when I give them a slice of myself. (This pun intended!)
The Pillsbury Doughboy is cute, but he's no match to the glee that raced through my veins when my second granddaughter most recently asked me if I would give her a bound collection of my favorite baking recipes. This slice of time has eternal rewards, as she will then pass my recipes on to the next generation, and the generation after her.
Pillsbury Doughboy eat your dough heart out, for your modern ways won't delight the future little ones who have decided to continue on without you. Preservation of the fittest to the task of baking from scratch will turn your laughter into tears.
Pillsbury Doughboy shape or get off the shelf!

Hey, Marilyn, all my pies are made from scratch (there's no piecrust like the old-fashioned lard stuff!) and I do make rhubarb pie! But, only when I can't help myself :)
Good job. Wonderfully written.
