I watched Him as He walked in the streets and spoke to everyone. There was nothing extraordinary about Him. An average-looking man, whose work was carpentry, He somehow captured my attention. When He spoke, it was with authority and knowledge.
“Who is this man who speaks so?” I asked.
“Some say He is the Messiah.”
The girls in the brothel teased me and goaded me to approach Him.
“He’s the Messiah,” they laughed cruelly. “Why would He care about you? The work we do puts us in a lower class than anyone. But go ahead – talk to Him.”
I tried to ignore Him each time He came to town, but that day was different. He looked right at me as He walked past. I decided that was the day I would approach Him.
“Are You the Messiah?” I could hear snickers behind me.
“I AM.” As He replied, I felt as if He and I were alone in the street. I could see the love in His eyes, so deep and real. I fell to my knees, shameful of my life, tears flowing from my eyes.
I am not worthy to be here, I thought to myself.
His hand touched my arm and I felt a jolt, like lightening.
“I am here to save the lost. You are not worthy on your own, but only by the grace of Him Who sent Me.”
He knows my thoughts? Does He know that I am a prostitute?
“My child, your sins are forgiven when you allow the Father to heal you. You can be changed only by His mercy and grace.”
As I knelt before Him, something deep within me changed. My thoughts became clear as I let His love cover me. I looked up at His radiant face, knowing I had been forgiven. My heart was filled with joy and thankfulness. As my tears were now cleansing and refreshing, they washed away the burdens of my former life.
I rose to my feet, knowing I would sin no more. From that day forward, my work would be for the Messiah – my Savior.
