Once upon a time, my focus in life was competition. I not only wanted to be better, faster, smarter than everyone else, but I wanted to make sure everyone else knew it too.

Now, this may sound like an odd-combination in a person, but I was also quite reserved and I hated conflict, which meant that my butting heads with others was generally kept to a minimum, except inside my head.

Its funny now, while that competitive spirit is still making noise in the back of my head, I’m now at a point where I can finally start to ignore it. While you might chalk the change up to being older and more mature, I think there is something else that is really at the root of my gradual transformation. Well, really, two little things…

I’m a mother to two beautiful, wonderful little boys and nothing else on earth has ever brought me more joy. I’ve found a new reason for living – one that has nothing to do with whatever else is going on in the rest of the world. I don’t care so much about what happens at work, in politics, or any where else, as long as my boys are safe and happy and love the Lord with all their heart.

When my oldest was about a month old, I sat in a church service, holding him, and listening to a student share his testimony. Right there, God spoke to me and told me he had a special purpose for the child in my arms. This tiny little boy was going to do great things for God. My job was to help direct him on that path.

Now, he is four years old and is already living up to the calling placed on him as an infant. With the skill of a polished preacher, he shares the love of God with everyone he meets. Even when he started a new school recently, he cornered every teacher to tell them of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection. One teacher told me later that, if she wasn’t already a believer, she would want to know who this Jesus was that one so little could talk about.

My life has changed forever. My purpose is clear. And it all lies in the two small beds in the next room.
