Norman sat petting Chopstix as he finished up the last of his prayers for the evening.
“Here’s your new collar, I made it especially for you!” Norman buckled the collar which had a special inscription of Psalm 3:3-4.
“Look! You! Horrible cat-I’m going to take that collar off your neck and rip it up!”, Zella growled.
“I might even rip up your neck a bit”, the pug half barked with envy.
“You always have such a nasty attitude, and it figures. It matches your awful smell”, the cat said as he cleaned his paw.
The little man went to start dinner while the pair stayed out on the porch.
The dog began growling at the cat as he napped on the banister, “you don't deserve a new collar. I deserve it!”
“You deserve a bath”, the cat tried to rest his head as he flicked his tail up and down teasing the dog.
“I will show you a bath!”, the dog hopped up on her tiny hind pug legs reaching for his tail. Success!!! Zella managed to nip the cat’s tail and hang on for a second.
The cat shook free, growled, hissed, and ran off. They darted down the hill, and the cat cleared the road just as the pug ended up in the middle of the road. A car screeched to a stop, but it was too late the pug was lying in the road without a single movement. The lady from the car got out to inform the little old man. Chopstix returned to see Norman doubled over and weeping as he picked up Zella. The pug was breathing very lightly. Norman laid Zella on the porch in her bed. Chopsticks looked on and every hair on his body was on edge.
The cat stayed by Zella’s side. Norman finally went to bed leaving Zella with shallow breathing.
“Wake up my smelly friend”, Chopstix let out a meow softly. “Oh, Lord, please spare my friend”, Chopstix cried gently. “If cats do have nine lives… she could take one of mine… she could take three”, Chopstix continued to meow gently.
An elohim walked up to the porch and soothed Chopstix as he prayed.
“Hello dear cat”, the messenger said gently.
“Hello messenger, did you come to collect my friend?” Chopstix replied sorrowfully.
“The One on the throne heard a prayer that moved him deeply”, the messenger calmed the fur on chopsticks back.
“I will gladly give up some of my nine lives for my friend”, Chopstix fixed his gaze on the elohim and gave a slow blink with a deep purr.
The elohim chuckled, “my dear cat nine lives are not required.” He stopped himself from explaining further, “the Creator doesn't require a sacrifice, trades, or bargains. The One on the throne heard prayers and sent me with a little gift.” The messenger pulled out a dog treat and placed it under Zella's nose. Zella's breathing quickened with the scent.
Chopstix stopped crying and gave a full body rub to the elohim as he stood up and nearly hit the top of the porch roof.
Zella's eyes opened and her nose was in full force sniffing the air.
“Hey! Dog!” Chopstix batted the treat closer to Zella. “This one is for you!”
Zella gobbled up the treat as she growled a bit. “Hey cat… I heard your prayer”, Zella’s pug face showed a mix of gratitude and remorse.
Chopstix curled up by Zella and the two rested. Norman came out to the porch with a sullen face and his shovel, but he was wonderfully surprised to see both his pets healthy and getting along.
It pleased the Owner greatly to know his creation champions mercy.
