“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness,
and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear
Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood,
even the forgiveness of sins.” [1]
By the grace of God, we who have repented of our sin and are trusting Jesus Christ as Savior can rejoice that our salvation is stable and secure. We have passed from darkness to light. We have been redeemed, brought back from the pit of destruction into which we were headed. Our sin debt was paid at the cross by the precious blood of Christ. Through God’s beloved Son our sins are gone.
“For as the heaven is high above the earth, so
great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as
the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our
transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his
children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.” [2]
Our sovereign God graciously provided a way—the only way— for us to be saved. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” [3] The perfect righteousness of Christ has been imputed unto us forever through his death on the cross. We have been born again, given a new nature, and promised eternal life. Now we belong to Him whose kingdom is forever.
In Genesis 12:1-3 KJV God made an unconditional promise to Abraham that was the basis for the Old Covenant. This promise was repeated to his son Isaac and grandson Jacob. Their descendants became known as the Jews. God ordained that salvation be offered to the world through his people Israel, the Jews.
I have never forgotten the clarity of a radio sermon preached by my former pastor, the late Dr. John G. Mitchell. He was making the point that God did not choose the Jews out of favoritism. He said…There are three reasons why God called the Jews to be His chosen people:
(1) They were used by Him as a witness to the nations.
(2) Through them the original Scriptures were written down.
(3) He sent the Savior and Redeemer through the Jews.
The Old Covenant required the Jews to maintain a rigorous, continuous sacrificial system of killing perfect animals without blemish—shedding the blood of bulls, goats, rams, etc., and offering them to their holy God.[4] The New Covenant required the once-for-all redemptive death of the perfect Son of God on the cross as a sacrifice for our sin.[5]
The prophet Jeremiah foretold this amazing truth thousands of years ago. Inspired by God, he wrote in Jeremiah 31:31, 33 KJV: “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah … But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” [6]
Now in these End Times days of chaos and confusion, of danger and deception Jeremiah’s prophecy has come to pass. It has been fulfilled and continues to be fulfilled. Through Jesus’ death on the cross, forgiveness of sin, fellowship with God, and the hope of eternal life, is freely available to all who accept His indescribable gift of salvation. All believers in Christ, whether Jew or Gentile are sealed by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Could our salvation be any more stable or secure?

At the Last Supper in the upper room before his betrayal and crucifixion, Jesus said to his disciples “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood” [Luke 22:20 ESV]. What a wonderful privilege it is to know the Lord and to enjoy daily fellowship with our creator and the author and finisher of our faith.
