7 Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before the Lord concerning all the saving deeds of the Lord which he performed for you and for your fathers. 8 When Jacob went into Egypt and the Egyptians oppressed them,[a] then your fathers cried to the Lord and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place. 9 But they forgot the Lord their God; and he sold them into the hand of Sis′era, commander of the army of Jabin king of[b] Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them.
I cannot help but cringe when I own up to the times I ‘m oblivious to the attentiveness of God over my life. No excuses: I have, as I’m sure many others do, a cache of word for word accounts of rescues, restorations and realizations because of God. So how do I sometimes find myself wandering in the desert of woe is me? Two little letters – m.e.
Even when the Holy Spirit brings my neglect to focus, the acknowledgement and repentance is freeing! And encouraging myself starts with making this verse a banner over my heart –“Take care lest you forget the Lord your God” Deuteronomy 8:11. As I get older, new aches, pains and limitations can really drain the joy bank so keeping myself well versed in His promises and reminding my spirit of all He has already done for me, is essential.
Praise is the door to encouragement, whether it is for me or to lift up someone else. It all begins with gratitude. Prayer, spoken or silent is the key, and I would say, from experience, spoken is a fantastic way to stay focused. You know that the declaration of your gratitude will annoy the enemy, and he will try to crush your prayer so be bold! To really magnify the power to praise, turn up that praise, worship music, and let it ignite a fresh fire in you! Turn to the volumes of good reports and testimonies of God in your life. Review your prayer lists, re-read your journals out loud, write prayers of praise and thankfulness! God knows your heart, but He loves to hear your voice!
