“The wind blows wherever it wants.
Just as you can hear the wind
but can’t tell where it comes from
or where it is going, so you can’t explain
how people are born of the Spirit.”
(John 3:8, NLT)

I woke up to the morning sun—
it shone upon my face.
The day was bright and beautiful,
and blessed by my God’s grace.

I quickly dressed in hat and coat,
and gloves upon my hands.
The brisk, fresh air had welcomed me
as winds blew o’er the lands.

The Lord sent forth these lively winds
that gave me quite a stir,
when something deep within my soul
woke up to a whisper.

I felt a peace surrounding me—
I felt I’d been redeemed—
and as God’s Spirit washed o’er me
I felt I had been cleaned.

He scrubbed—He washed—He briskly cleaned
my ugly stains of sin,
and then the lively winds God sent
refreshed my soul within.

And as I thanked the Lord above,
I dropped down on my knees.
The lively winds that He had sent
were now a gentle breeze. . .

God’s Spirit was the brisking winds—
the winds I felt and heard,
‘twas in my heart He spoke to me,
although I heard no word.
