“Hello, Monica, how are you?”
“Great, just checking on you.”
“No prob, guess who is here? (a long pause) Mom”
“What! Great, let me talk with her.”
“Hi Monica, glad to hear your voice.”
“I know you guys are in a rush, quickly, how do you like what you see, Mom?”
“When the queen of Sheba visited Solomon and saw all that he had she remarked that the half has never been told. This has been my experience. Today, for example, At the logistics center I witnessed how he motivated the workers before they went off to see the clients.”
“You must be proud.”
“I feel honored, and you played a role too. Thank you for being there.
“You are welcome”.
“Where are you now, I am about to visit one of the franchise stores. He is inside as we speak.”
“Enjoy your time with him, bye”.
“Bye”.
As I entered the store to join Ken, the stories of his life came rushing to me. I had mixed feelings, it was nostalgic. I fought back the tears and smiled as I surveyed the place, and he introduced the workers.
We returned to the logistics center for lunch. One of his managers asked his permission to have lunch with me and he granted it. He was friendly and gave details about his family then he questioned.
“Is that young man your son?”
“Yes” I said emphatically.
He looked at me then, smiled.
“You have groomed a young man that has helped me to pay my family and buy my home in this country”.
The lessons from that day revealed to me that the Lord had his hand on my son just as how he had it on Jeremiah, the prophet. He messed up but he got up and continued on the right path renewing his faith and his relationship with us.
Ken was conceived when I was thirty- five years old and to many people at that time I was old. But I was of the opinion that Ken was conceived in God’s time, and I am blessed to be a mother.
God in his goodness blessed Ken with a curious mind to investigate and learn fast and to top it off, he accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour and was baptized at ten years old. By eleven years old he was in high school and did excellently both academically and in extracurricular activities.
He wanted to do further studies in a first-world country, and this is where all the challenges started but God Almighty gave us wisdom to fight for him in prayers while teaching me and his father how to love him and to see him as his instrument for his use.
Unknown to me Ken missed his family and he tried to make up for this by leaving his personal living quarters and starting a concubinage lifestyle. After a time, the young woman wanted him to be up and about with her. To cover his tracks, he lied to us. (His father and I) This broke my heart.
At that time cell phones were not popular so calling frequently caused bills to be piled up.
However, he always told us what was happening. We traveled repeatedly to visit and counsel him. God heard our prayers and delivered him, and he was on his feet again.
He found jobs during his studies, and he was always favored and left a lasting impression on his employers and employees. This placed him in an esteemed position where he was called by two friends to a different state where he could be employed and paid according to his skill set.
Eventually, he established two successful businesses and purchased a franchise, on the premise that he should “help families build sustainable lifestyles”.
Clearly, Ken has embraced his calling as an entrepreneur and has been making a positive impact and I am grateful to God’s mercies and grace. He has blessed me with a life that brought glory to God’s name.
Jeremiah saw himself unworthy and too young to work for the Lord, but God reminded him of his position from his conception. (Jeremiah1:5)
