This young lady had pent-up anger that fueled her strength. She attacked the trail with gusto as she tried to escape the pain of her turbulent past. Perhaps she was running away, but maybe she needed this outlet to think and rehabilitate herself.
Her path was littered with obstacles, including wild animals and threatening strangers. As she lugged her oversized backpack and braved the elements, she dealt with lost shoes, sore feet, muscle pain, and extreme exhaustion.
Alone on the trail with her thoughts, she dealt with the problems from her past through flashbacks that prompted her to manage the associated emotions. In facing the hurts and forgiving those involved, she got in touch with the person God made her to be. With all the clutter and desperation of the real world out of sight and mind, she persevered.
Cheryl’s story reminds us of our struggles as we deal with the consequences of our sins. When we choose to go our way instead of God’s way, we encounter implications that will ultimately harm us. Cheryl learned to deal with her past sins and follow the right path for her life. I do not think she knew God, but she made some choices that would please Him.
• She faced her sin and knew it was wrong.
• She forgave those who had harmed her.
• She determined to know who she was and the purpose of her
life.
• She decided to mend her ways.
These choices are good, right, and life-changing, but temporary. My prayer for Cheryl is that she moves forward and learns of Jesus and allows Him to take control of her life.
