The weather is rough these days. The heat creates dust and the hot wind blows it all over. It makes me tired and weary besides being very uncomfortable. That's the reason I haven't replied to your letter till now. Nothing unusual is happening here. A small group of religious pilgrims are passing through our country. They are preaching in synagogues and in the market places. People stop and listen , or stand in groups and argue.
These pilgrims are not rich as most religious leaders, who wear costly robes and travel in style. They travel on foot , carry their meager luggage in knapsacks,and sleep in the open. The leader of this group, is a short well- built middle aged man. He has the appearance of a very learned man. When they stop to rest under the shade of trees at noon, he is either writing or talking to the others, and they listen attentively. They treat him with respect and call him Rabbi Paul. Out of curiosity ,I listened to him and was amazed. It wasn't anywhere like the religious messages we hear, Keith , and I want to share them with you.
First of all the Rabbi, presents Almighty God as a loving Father. He preaches that God created man in His own image and prepared a garden for him and blessed him with everything he needed. God made a covenant with man that this blessing will continue as long as man obeys and honors Him. But humanity broke this covenant and committed the crime of rejecting God and His rightful authority, thus incurring the wrath of God. The only way man could be redeemed from God's wrath was by confession of his sin and making an atonement. Since God still loved man and wanted to resume His fellowship with him, He offered His Son, Jesus, as the atoning sacrifice.
Do you know what an atoning sacrifice is, Kieth? It is the most horrible, painful, humiliating death on the cross. And Jesus went through it, for the sake of us all. He promised that whosoever believes this, and confesses their sins will be saved. Rabbi Paul also said that after He died, Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into heaven and sits with His Father. When He left the earth,Jesus promised that He will come again and take all those who believe Him, to live with Him for ever in Heaven.
This makes me think, Kieth, if you and I are included in this promise.You are a cliff on the mountain and I am only a dusty road. All I can boast of is the footprints of the missionaries who walked as they carried the the gospel to the sinners. I understand that the Bible, God's word, says that there are high mountains ( Rev.21: 10 KJV) and streets (Rev.21:21 KJV) in heaven. I am praying to Jesus that He will take us to heaven, you a cliff on one of those high mountains and me one of those streets paved in gold. It will be great for us to live for ever in heaven with Jesus.
