TITLE: We Are All The Same | Previous Challenge Entry

Al and Tom are seated at a table when Tim and Ed drift in and join them. The four men have been meeting for almost two years. Jennifer, their waitress, carries over their usual order a carafe of coffee and four blueberry muffins.
Al opens with prayer and asked, “Anyone have a story they want to discuss?”
Tim takes a sip of his coffee. “ I have to tell you something.” He takes a nibble from his blueberry muffin. “If David from the Old Testament made it into heaven, I shouldn’t have a problem at all.”
“What are you talking about?” Al asked.
“Well this thing with Bathsheba. David walks around on his roof and he sees Bathsheba taking a bath. The Bible tells us she was very beautiful to behold. He did more than just glance. David fixed his eyes on her with a steady gaze. He learns she is the wife of Uriah, the Hittite. David doesn’t seem to care she is married and sends his servants to have her come to meet him.”
“Wait a minute you forgot something.” Tom says. “It’s spring time and that is the time kings go out to battle and David stays home. Not very kingly”
“I wonder how Bathsheba felt being summoned by the king? Tim asked. “What was going through her mind? She must have been scared to death.”
“Things get worse,” said Ed. “David and Bathsheba lay together and she gets pregnant. Bathsheba must be scared and confused. Now she has to tell the king about the baby.”
“David has to cover up his mess,” Tim says. “He sends for Uriah and asks him how the battle is going? As if he cares. Then he sends Uriah to his house to sleep with Bathsheba. Uriah sleeps at the king’s door with his servants. He is loyal to his men and commander Joab while they are in battle he can not lie with his wife.”
David has another opportunity for Uriah to sleep with Bathsheba but that fails.
Tom shakes his head. “I don’t believe David gives Uriah his own death warrant to deliver to Joab. What kind of man is he?”
David’s plan succeeds and Uriah is killed. Bathsheba mourned for Uriah. When she was finished with her mourning, David brought her into his house and made her his wife and she bore a son.
“Unbelievable!” Said Ed. “One stare turned into adultery and murder. It’s terrible just to cover up one mistake.”
“Wait a minute guys. I want you to remember something. We are no different then David. I’m sure we all turned a gaze into a stare.
Ed straightened in his chair. “I have stared at some women more than I should have. I haven’t done it in a long time. I felt bad because I love Helen so much. I prayed about it and asked the Holy Spirit to help me guard my heart.”
“We all have,” said Al. “According to Jesus in Matthew five, if we have lust in our heart we have committed adultery with her in his heart.”
“None of us have killed anyone.” Tim said.
“Yes but we all have been angry.” Ed said. “Sometimes in my mind I would call the person I’m angry with names. I ask God to forgive me and try not to do it again.”
“Ed that is what we are suppose to do.” Al said. “Pray about it and ask forgiveness. Ask the Holy Spirit to help us in all we do so we can glorify God. We can use these experiences to draw closer to God. Remember our identity is in Christ. We are going to make mistakes. If we don’t ask the Lord for His forgiveness that one wrong can lead to another. We must seek God in all we do.”

My interpretation is that these men trusted and knew each other enough to share their thoughts. Their dedication to the Word.
