“Robert, next week, we are having our fellowship. Find a speaker on ‘’How to receive the Holy Spirit’’! If you do not have one in mind, try Peter, our mutual friend,” Amos asked me.
“Yes, I will, by help of the Holy Spirit,” I responded.
As I drove back home, my mind was intensely preoccupied, processing the just given assignment. Though it was peak hour, I did not notice the usual traffic jam! Any topic about God, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit has always baffled me from time immemorial! The most enigmatic of the Trinity being The Holy Spirit! Finding a suitable speaker, in one week, was, itself, a nagging tall order. Resorting to Peter was even worse! First, I didn’t like his unkempt beards and shabby dress code. I was not even sure about his salvation testimony. His Reverend wife, appeared more saved but he was merely supporting her ministry, so I thought. The more I tried to repent, the stronger the sin grew. Hence, my dilemma.
Suddenly, I realized that I had reached the last junction where one road led to my home and another to another direction to Life Ministry where Dixon, the Country Representative, had invited me to pay him a courtesy visit any day I would be free.
Dixon was not present but had left a message for me.
Betty, his secretary, gave me a white envelope. I thanked her and left, promising to call Dixon later.
As I descended the steps, I opened the envelope, only to see a bundle of money! I had made a presentation to Management sometime back for which I did not expect any payment. What a pleasant surprise! Near the reception, was a small book-store which attracted my attention.
‘’Do you sell any books on the Holy Spirit?’’ I asked the sales lady.
“Yes, I do sir,” she confidently replied.
With alacrity, she picked three small books, by Bill Bright, from the shelf and handed them to me. One of them had a title: “How to Receive the Holy Spirit”! I paid and left happily.
How I wished I had a driver to drive me so that I could immediately start reading the book! I deliberately placed the little book on the passenger seat on my left, on top of the other two books, visible enough to read (repeatedly) the heading as I drove along. I had only two kilometers left to reach home but it took much longer, perhaps, for obvious reasons?
At home, I frantically parked the car and headed for my library, only to be intercepted by my wife, inviting me for lunch! I begrudgingly obliged, had a quick lunch, deliberately avoiding questions and answers that may prolong lunch.
This reminded me of our High School days. Noah [pseudonym] was a ‘book-worm’ and average student who needed to catch up on his weak performance. He would speedily gulp his meals and rush to the library or his other reading corners for many hours. Whenever we challenged him to explain this strange habit, he would say that, unlike us, he had no time to waste. So he would intentionally gulp the food so that digestion would be completed later as he did his reading.
After lunch, I rushed to my library, closed the door and plunged my body, soul and spirit into Bill’s book.
By the time I turned the last page, I was in tears, bubbling in strange tongues, quaking with ineffable joy from my cranium to the toes. The last time I experienced similar joy and peace was the day I received salvation. Fortunately, I was more prepared and deliberate about it than I was when I received salvation. I had read about the Holy Spirit by Benny Hinn, Joyce Myers and others and Amos’ week-long assignment to search for a speaker on The Holy Spirit, all had prepared me well.
EUREKA! The search was over. The Speaker had been identified, coached and appointed. The Holy Spirit did the coaching and the baptism.
When the Fellowship day came, my topic was: ‘How I Received the Holy Spirit Baptism Last Week’. As laconically as the Holy Spirit guided and stirred me, I shared my testimony, step by step, word by word. The rivers flowed in me and from me to my listeners. Oh what a blessing in surprise it was! The anointing was heavy. Nearly half of my audience received the Holy Spirit baptism and spoke in tongues.
