“Go home, we are closing indefinitely.” I could not believe what I was hearing from the mouth of my supervisor. I had worked at my dream job for nearly six years and now this? What? Why?

“It’s the Rona,” someone said. What in the world is the “Rona?” A contagion from China was here and it was a serious threat to human lives. Everyone was told to stay at home. They called it “sheltering-in-place.” One could not go anywhere except the grocery store. Never in my life had such a thing occurred. As businesses closed, the economy faltered before our eyes.

Many people became hyper-vigilant about mask-wearing as it became the required social norm. Going shopping had become a solitary experience as we looked out from behind our masks. I smiled at people, but they never knew it. People stopped even looking at each other but proceeded forward with their singular agendas.

Staying home seemed like a vacation to me. It was early spring, so I learned about landscaping and gardening and began my new outdoor adventure. I had to be creative where I was, and I was at home. Pulling weeds, clearing my yard of sticks, arranging stones, and adding mulch and borders became my new job. Receiving unemployment insurance from the government meant I was fairly well paid. God provided for all my needs and so I had enough of everything. However, everyone was not so fortunate as I was. Many people were afraid that they would not have enough: enough money to pay the rent, enough food to eat.

My heart went out to them. I gave food and other material goods to people, but I also gave them the Gospel of good news and peace. I taught them that God provides for His people, a new concept for most of them. I told them that Jesus would supply all their needs. Those who received Jesus as Lord and Savior also received Him as Provider: enough in every way.

Jesus fed 5000 men plus their wives and children (approximately 1500 people) with five loaves of bread and two fish.

“And then, they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.” (Matthew 14:20 NKJV)
