The visiting pastor found the small church parking lot dotted with a handful of cars and pickups. He had traveled to hear an evangelist on a Monday night when his church wasn’t in session. Revival services gave him an opportunity to learn from other ministers.
It was a night of miracles.
From the looks of faces in the tiny congregation, the visiting pastor mused to himself it appeared the group needed reviving. After singing “Amazing Grace” and “Revive Us Again”, the church pastor welcomed visitors and introduced the evangelist.
It was a night of miracles.
The evangelist began speaking as the visiting pastor moved forward in his pew to understand the message. There were the customary comments about Christians needing an awakening in their spirit from time to time. He also emphasized the altar was always open to anyone who wanted to accept Christ into their hearts.
It was a night of miracles.
The congregation didn’t appear to be responsive other than also struggling to hear the evangelist who obviously spoke with an impediment. The visiting pastor thought to himself, “What a waste of time.” Here was someone with speech difficulties trying to preach the gospel. How could God possibly use such a man?
It was a night of miracles.
The Holy Spirit convicted the visiting pastor of his judgmental attitude but he still struggled to follow the sermon. He silently asked God to forgive him as he sincerely began to listen.
It was a night of miracles.
No sooner had the congregation began singing “Just As I Am,” a young crying lady walked at a fast pace from a back pew to the altar. The visiting pastor was startled. Someone was actually responding to this evangelist’s message. Even the stoic crowd smiled as they wiped tears.
It was a night of miracles.
The evangelist knelt with the sobbing woman at the altar. Here he invited her to accept Christ into her heart and have her sins forgiven. She confessed in agreement.
It was a night of miracles.
The young woman was invited to share her conversion with those in attendance. She talked about knowing she was lost and had wanted to be saved for some time. This night she had understood the salvation message preached by the evangelist with the speech impediment.
It was a night of miracles.
The visiting pastor wept. The young woman also spoke with an impediment.
It was a night of miracles.

Also, everyone in the story is emotional but I didn’t really feel the emotion. Perhaps if you would have written the story from the visiting pastors POV and given us a little more background on him, maybe we could better feel his brokenness from his recognition of his sin. You have to give me a good reason to care about him.
Please don’t take offense. I feel it has potential or I wouldn’t take the time to write all this. God bless. Keep writing.
