Rex Brand heard his aunt over the end music of the video he was watching. “Rex, are you ready to go? You are graduating high school and you don’t want to be late.”

Rex was ready to put his teen years behind him. The best thing that happened during his high school days was meeting the other members of the Light Force, except Dirk, who had been his friend since kindergarten. He was ready to be an adult and have the media stop calling Diamond the “Boy Powerhouse”. Turning off the DVD player and TV, he called back, "Be ready in less than 5, Aunt Lydia!”

Thanks to the morphing belt, a gift from the same people who gave him his powers, he was able to get dressed in a matter of a minute or so, and soon came downstairs to where Aunt Lydia was waiting, car keys twirling on her finger, in a copy of his best suit. When he got to school he would don the cap and gown that the entire class was to wear.

Across town, another superpowered individual was also dressing for River Edge High’s graduation ceremony, the terrorist known as Lion Lord, who had planned with the rest of Allah's Fist to disrupt the ceremony and kill as many infidels as they could. Lion Lord was certain that at least one of the Light Force would be there. All the better to attack them and make them reveal their real identities while attempting to save their fellow infidels.

As Rex got out of his aunt’s old beat-up Nissan, he saw Dirk waiting for him with several of the Light Force members. They already had their caps and gowns on, and Rebecca rushed over and gave him a hug and kiss, as Aunt Lydia tried to hand him his cap and gown.

“Rebecca,” Aunt Lydia chastised in her reedy voice, “There’ll be time for that later.”

Rex Brand was shuffled away from his friends as they were sorted alphabetically in preparation to receive their diplomas. As their names were called, they ascended to the stage to shake the hand of the principal and receive their diplomas from a Board of Education member. A fellow athlete named Bob Borman walked up the steps a bit slower than most, fortuitously avoiding a powerful figure in gold and tan landing just in front of the principal. Waving the claws built into his outfit, Lion Lord roared, “Allah wants this generation of infidels to be stopped before it can advance to positions in leadership and spread hatred of the true faith. Allah’s Fist attack!” At that, several other graduates threw off their robes to reveal the outfits they wore for Allah’s Fist.

Upon seeing this, Rex knew his teammates would be heading towards places where they could change into their uniforms. He edged away towards the bleachers, where he could use the darkness to transform into Diamond. After he did so, he emerged to see his fellow heroes attacking the villains. As he flew towards Lion Lord he shouted over his shoulder, “Thanks for saving one for me!”

With his super strength Diamond easily overpowered Lion Lord, while his teammates took out She Snake, Ali-Gator, Moonhunter and the Owl. Soon, the gym which had been ringing with the strains of ‘Pomp and Circumstance,’ resounded with the howl of police sirens just outside, and the clipped orders to restrain the defeated members of Allah’s Fist inside. Lieutenant Swift, who was in the audience to watch his daughter Tabithia graduate, (not knowing that she was also Amazing Girl), walked up to the assembled teen heroes and quipped, “This is likely the last time I can say that you kids did a great job, as usual.”

Diamond, who usually didn’t have much to say responded, “Yeah, we’re all graduating today. We’re not kids any more!”

Swift smiled back at the massive hero, “That’s what I meant. I guess you’ll need to vanish so you can put your caps and gowns back on.’ He made a shooing motion with his hands, and the assorted graduates scattered to where they had hidden to don their costumes mere minutes before. Soon the chaos that ensued after the attack settled down and the ceremony resumed.

Larissa Nator, sister of Rebecca (Mariness) Nator and reporter for the River Edge Eagle News, ran with the headline ‘Teen Heroes Graduate, Teen Villains Graduate too?’

Rex just shook his head as he packed for his summer missions trip to Israel.
