naively
I thought
you were a friend
Once you drew near
to laugh
and chat
you won my trust
for I never believed
you would betray
and gainsay
me before the board
you almost crucified
me with nails of lies and malice
to malign my character
and tarnish my name
but I managed to rebut
with proofs and testimonies
Still you thirsted
after my blood
like a Dracula
invading,
intruding,
interrupting
my work place
and personal space
Enough is enough
I have learned to steer clear
of any deep involvement
lest you took advantage
of my straight nature
I realised you were a wolf
in sheep’s skin
that I must be constantly weary of
That was history
—I rejoice
no more within each other’s
radar
I have left the company
for good
and started a new life
with warm and caring
colleagues I have grown
to love, cherish and respect
There’s room
to negotiate
or compromise
to give and to take
always mindful
of one another’s needs
strengths and challenges
Here I learn to trust
and believe again in the residue
of human goodness
in broken world
Healings of the memories
are what I have received
free from the shackles
of my painful past
