Moses is an example of those who were called by God to fulfill His plan but gave excuses. I will give my paraphrase of the events. After many years the children of God had become slaves in Egypt and were being mistreated. Moses had been saved from being killed as an infant and was brought up in Pharaoh’s house. As an adult he decided to try to help his people by killing an Egyptian slave driver but had to flee for his life. His plan did not work. After 40 years as a shepherd God called Moses from a burning bush.
God said, “I have heard the cries of my people and I want to deliver them to a land filled with milk and honey. And I want you to lead them”
But Moses said,”Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt, I am slow of speech, he won’t listen to me?” Now if you know the whole story God did use Moses with many miracles to deliver Israel out Egypt despite his cold feet at first.
Another character that I relate to is Gideon. The Midianites had oppressed the Children Of Israel and would raid them at harvest time and steal all their food. Gideon was in a wine press threshing his wheat, when an Angel of the Lord came to him saying, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor.”
Gideon said,” How can I save Israel, my clan is the weakest, and I am the least of my Fathers’s house?”
But God said he would be with him and saw him through all his doubts. If you know the end of the story Gideon defeated the enemy with only 300 men. God got all the glory despite Gideon’s initial cold feet.
This is my story. I met a wonderful woman, Florence Litthaur, when attending her CLASS seminar many years ago. I was a new believer. She taught many things. Learning about our personalities and how we were made with strengths and weaknesses was a revelation to me. For most of my life I felt like a failure, and tried to be perfect. One year for her birthday I went as Hugs the Clown and did a couple of tricks and gave her a special “T” shirt, it had her name on the back and a picture of Hugs on the front that said, “EVERYBODY LOVES HUGS.” I was pleased she liked it.
She told us when we have had trauma or hardships in our past it could mask who God created us to be. She told me I should write a book, and call it, “Masks,” with a picture of Hugs on the front and me as Judy peaking from behind with a tear on my cheek. But I did not see my self as a writer. I had only written a few inspired poems and articles.
Over these many years I thought about what she said, and would talk myself out of doing it. A few years ago I felt God telling me,”Write the book.” So I took a course on “How to Write Your Life Story.” That inspired me and I began to write. God gave me the tag line,“You are not what you put on every day.” When I tell people this, they always nod their head and agree. I pray others will know the God who can bring healing and freedom for all He wants you to be, and not live behind a mask anymore. Now I have written most of the book. And have overcome my cold feet of not believing God could make me a writer.
What ever you believe God has called you to do or be, stop making excuses and seek His counsel and He will bring it to pass.
I believe God does not call the equipped, but He equips the called.

I think I would have started out with my story instead of Moses and Gideon.
Many great points in your story
