When Manoah and his wife hosted the angel of God and he disappeared into the flame of the sacrifice they offered, they were astounded. Falling on their faces, Manoah thought surely they would die because they had seen the angel of the Lord. But his wife, full of faith, believed God hadn't told them all that only to let them die.
God brought about his word to her, and she gave birth to the son she was promised. She believed, and obeyed the command not to drink wine or take a razor to his head.
She was strong. I love the stories of these women who took God at His word regardless of culture, opinions, or fears. They took their place in the story of the world because they chose to trust the Creator of the world.
It's odd that we wouldn't trust Him, when He's the One Who made it all.
Strange that it would enter our minds to doubt the One our very breath is dependent on.
As with everything else, the ruler of this world causes our minds to wonder whether God really knows what He's doing, after all. Just like he asked Eve in the garden, “Has God really said?”
Eve knew what God had said, but doubt entered her mind along with desire for the tantalizing forbidden. She reached, took, and ate. Her life was forever changed, as was ours. She didn't see the far reaching affects of her choices, didn't know how imperative obedience was when desire wished to triumph over command.
The things we are tempted with often come in the form of goodness and well being. How many people say, “God wants me to be happy”, then proceed to take their own choice over God's known will?
We're mistaken and deceived when we believe our version of happiness is of greater value than God's gift of joy. We trade the greater for the lesser. We can never know true, lasting joy apart from the Founder of joy.
Whatever it is that breaks you, makes you want to turn in pursuit of Christ to grasp for your own happiness, remember that when the Spirit of the Lord was on Samson, he tore the lion in pieces even when he had nothing in his hand.
See this--- he had nothing. And he was about to be destroyed because he had nothing in the face of danger. But because the Lord was with him, he had everything he needed; in fact, what he had was better than his own sword would have been.
When you feel as if you have nothing, don't grasp for something apart from the Lord and what He gives you. He gives you all things good, all things conducive to your highest blessing. Surrounding vibes of our culture, opinions of others, or your own fears have little to do with the blessing hidden for you in walking with the One Who made it all.
When the Spirit of the Lord is on you, you break in pieces the lies and bondage that keep you from joy, blessing, and freedom. Follow hard after Him, and you will find grace pursuing you.
Posture yourself where God is able to overtake you with His grace. When the Spirit comes on you, you will tear in pieces the greatest enemies of your life. Though the lion was strong, Samson was stronger.
He had nothing in his hand, but destroyed the beast which was about to destroy him. So you, when you feel as if you have nothing, know that in Christ, you have everything. When you follow Him, walk with Him, live intimately with Him, He leads you into fullest joy.
You will defy danger and know no lack.
