“Moooooooom!” The screech from the kitchen snapped Sarah back to reality.
“Would you like to sample my cookies I am doing it as a trial for my bakery test tomorrow.”
Sarah bellowed from the kitchen. The aroma drifted into the living room ahead of Sarah in a hot pink bandana and matching apron.
“One would not hurt.” She grinned
“It has cranberry and orange.” She patted the side pockets on her apron “I am going to ace this test tomorrow” Then bounced out of the room.
Sophie groaned yet another promise about to be broken. Sarah who is 5ft 10 and a size eight does not grasp the concept that a cookie is still a cookie, cranberry and orange does not make it healthy. The cookie was crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The orange was way ahead of the cranberry in terms of taste.
She really should have been in the gym today instead opted for the glitz of Rio on TV. She did want to encourage Sarah and was pleased she has finally found something she was passionate about.
“One cookie won’t hurt” she muttered to herself, besides a cookie is a small price to pay compared to money wasted on courses where her only child has not followed through.
The clock chimed and it was time for her to spend time with God. She was about to press off on her remote then Simone Biles started her floor routine. She knew she had lost the battle. In the corner of her mind she convinced herself she will switch the TV off after the US gymnast team. That routine finished, and it was clear USA had gold in the bag, but who will get silver and bronze? It was tight. Sophie once again ignored the nudge. Maybe just maybe till she saw the score board. Hours later she realised that spiritual priorities did take gold in her heart, not did it come near to making the medals’ list.
She consoled herself just before bed that tomorrow is a new day and she will lift the flag of Christ with her time.
