Preparing for this adventure required trust that those who would harness us would do so according to the manufacturer instructions. It also required us to trust that the equipment would not fail, and we would land back safely on the ground. It's funny how easily I was able to be placed in that harness and lifted 17 stories into the air, and yet, sometimes when God asks me to do something, I am immobilized by fear. In times like that, I would do well to remember the admonition in Psalm 118:8 (KJV), “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”
I know that God cares about me far more than those amusement park ride operators do. Knowing this, why then is it so difficult for me to step out in faith believing that I will be safe and secure doing whatever it is that the Lord is asking of me? Where have you put confidence in man? Do you need to learn to trust God more? Remember, he knows our needs before we even ask.
Lord,
Sometimes we find it difficult to trust you fully and completely. Our spirits know that you love us and that the plans that you have for us are to prosper us and not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11), but our minds often tell us differently. Help us stay grounded in you so that when you ask us to step out in faith we can do so without fear. Remind us of the trust that was required to step into that harness and help us remember that we are far safer suspended in your hands then we are in the hands of any human.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
