Topic: MAIL (02/18/16)
One of the fondest memories of my childhood was spending my summers with my grandparents and taking the long mile and a half walks with grandpa to the mailbox. Every day at the same time, the mail seemed to be the most important thing on the agenda. I was too young to care what was in the mailbox. I just liked chatting with Grandpa and picking the wild flowers along the way.

As I grew older, I looked forward to receiving birthday cards from those same grandparents. Maybe I would even find a five-dollar bill inside. Other times I received Christmas presents and Valentine cards. I began to understand why Grandpa found the mail so important. Cards and gifts in the mail were really an expression of their love to me. Keeping in touch with relatives and friends who lived far away somehow made me feel a little closer and a lot more loved.

My grandparents are long gone now to be with the Lord, but the memories seem like yesterday as I read the cards I stashed away in the closet. Somehow, this mail seemed too important to throw away at the time. I never get tired of reading the words of love sent by those who cared.

Today there are other letters I read nearly every day, the letters Paul and the other apostles wrote years ago. Some sent to individuals, others to Christian churches. All sent in love to encourage or correct their Christian brothers and sisters in the Lord. Apparently, someone realized how important these letters were and never discarded them in the trash as so much of our mail is today.

Realizing that these letters were actually inspired by God makes them that much more important to me. Every day I can read God’s love letters to me. It is His important mail, preserved through the centuries, and given to all who would read them. Love letters from the One who cares more than anyone else does in this world.

I still look forward to getting letters and cards in my mailbox from my family. Each day I hurry to the mailbox soon after the mail is delivered. Far too often, I am disappointed seeing all the junk mail and bills, but it never stops me from going the next day with the same anticipation of finding some treasured letter.

I am never disappointed, however, reading the letters in my bible. The more I read them, the closer I feel to God and the more I feel loved by him. Just like the old letters from family, I never get tired of reading God’s words. In fact, I often hear something new God is trying to say to me.

I encourage everyone to read this important mail from God. You won’t find it in the mailbox because these letters were sent long time ago. Yet, each letter has a message of love just for you today.

I still have a couple of birthday cards from my grandparents. It brings back warm memories.
