A party, oh, so grand
To celebrate construction
On very expensive land.
Ladies dressed so beautifully,
Men in strict attire –
Jewels bedecked all the folks,
Diamond, pearl, sapphire.
Fancy foods from waiter’s trays,
Champagne with robust toasts,
Pianos, harps and violins
Played softly for the hosts.
At this celebration
Were many famous folks.
They talked of sports, world events
And even naughty jokes.
Besides the dignitaries,
I liked the food the best
From many lands and many seas
Displayed with grace and zest.
My curiosity couldn’t be quenched
About the caviar.
The rich and famous eat this dish,
A delicacy from afar.
It looked unappetizing
To my enquiring eyes.
But when I dug into this dip,
Oh, what a big surprise!
It tasted just like Gravy Train.
It smelled like a foul lake.
I wanted to spit out this stuff,
But I didn’t for culture’s sake.
A treat for fancy people –
But not for simple me.
Give me potato chips and dip;
It’s plain but so tasty.
One day there’ll be a banquet,
The best in history,
And it will honor Jesus Christ,
Who saved the saints and me.
The food will be delicious.
We’ll bow our heads in grace.
But the best part of this banquet
Is seeing Jesus’ face.
Oh, glory to our Savior,
The Lord from up above,
The food will have no meaning
‘Cause we’ll celebrate his love.
