Topic: FOLD (10/08/15)
As a child, I would look forward to Mom’s wonderful fruit salad she made for the holidays. First, she would whip up a bowl full of whipping cream until it was light and fluffy. Then she would add just a little sugar and some vanilla flavoring. Next, she used a spoon or spatula to gently fold in a mixture of all different kinds of fruit, peaches, pears, grapes, and pineapple, being careful not to stir too fast and cause the whipped cream to lose its fluffiness. Lastly, she would top in all off with a layer of marshmallows for extra sweetness and a couple of red maraschino cherries to make it look good. The best part, of course, was eating this wonderful salad.

I like to think that my life could be a replica of this fruit salad in a spiritual sense. I would consider myself the fluffy white cream, cleansed by the blood of Jesus and made as white as snow. Then the sweet loving flavor of the Lord would cause me to want to know Him more and become more like Him.

As I yield myself to Him and His will for my life, He would slowly and gently fold into me the fruits of His spirit (Gal. 5:22-23):

Love – a strong affectionate feeling that I am being totally cherished by God along with His commitment to bring about whatever is best for me regardless of the cost.

Joy – an awareness of the loving, caring, sharing, protecting presence of God whether my life is at its highest point or in its deepest turmoil.

Peace – an inner tranquility and trust in my Lord, leaving me with nothing to fear while resting in His care.

Patience – His being slow to anger, long-suffering, enduring wrongs done to Him and others all while forgiving and teaching me how to follow in His steps.

Kindness – God’s patient, gentle, and sympathetic understanding of my human nature, while showing me how to obtain a Godly nature and become more like Him.

Goodness – Only my God is perfectly moral and by reading His Word, I learn the moral standards of perfection. In addition, I know that as I yield to His will, all that happens to me, He will ultimately use to turn out for my good.

Faithfulness – a knowing that my Father is faithful to keep His promises and bring me through this life unto salvation and eternity with Him. Because of His faithfulness, He builds my faith in Him and all He can and will do for me.

Self-control – a perfect control over my thoughts and actions as per God’s example.

Gentleness – my Lord’s ability to instill the fruits of the spirit into my life in a slow, yet timely manner, so as not to disturb my growth, but lift me up higher while in the midst of correction.

Now after having accepted His folding of the fruits into my life, I hope to look good to those around me, enticing them to a taste of the life I have in Jesus. I am ready to share my fruit salad with all those who enter my life.

I think this is the first devotional about food that I've read so far. I thought you did a good job of blending in the fruits of the spirit.

I enjoyed this devotion. The comparison of the fruit salad and the fruits of the spirit is brilliant. God doesn't give them to us in neat little boxes, but mixed together so they compliment each other. The more I think about it, the more i love it! Great job!
