Moses cried out to God many times. There was a consistency to God’s answer.

‘Do something about it yourself.’

On one occasion Moses was cornered. Angry, chariot-riding Egyptians closed in from behind. The Red Sea blocked any escape. Over a million people followed him, expecting to be led into the Promised Land.

He’d come the wrong way. He’d known it at the time, but he had trusted God’s leading and now he was trapped. The crowd were terrified, expecting to suffer a violent death in the desert. They blamed him.

There was no solution. He encouraged the people to have faith, and then screamed at God in his heart.

‘Why cry out to me? You do it.’

‘Tell the people to move. Raise your staff. Stretch out your hand.’

Three positive instructions. Each one required faith and authority. When Moses obeyed, God moved supernaturally. (Read about it in Exodus 14:15-28)

Some years ago, a friend of mine needed to find another rental home but there was nothing available. This posed a serious problem for her, a pregnant, single mother, with five young children. I encouraged her to have faith, assuring her God would give her a place. With her, I appeared confident. At night, in my bedroom, I cried out for God to supply her need, fearing they would have to come to live with us. The Lord answered my prayer in an unexpected way.

‘Get her a house yourself.’

The idea was persistent and ridiculous. We had no money, a fledgling business and little income. The more I cried out to God for this woman, the stronger the impression became.

We contacted a broker. He gave us a figure. ‘You can get this much finance, but no more.’ It was only enough for a small home.I walked through house after house, trying to find enough room for a family of seven. After a week I gave up. The available finance wasn’t enough.

‘God, I told you we couldn't afford it. I tried.’ Again I prayed, asking Him to solve my friend’s housing crisis.

‘You get her a house.’

I wept in frustration. Why couldn't God be God and wave His hand over the situation? The next morning I rang the broker again. ‘I’m going to look for one more day.’

That day I found a beautiful home. It was small but met all of her needs and many of her wants, including a sand pit, rain water tank and swimming pool. After the legalities were finalized, we only had one dollar in the bank. God seemed to think it was all we needed. She was secure and very excited.

On another notable occasion, I held a three week old baby in my arms. Her future was bleak as her mother was very dysfunctional. Her little arms and legs were like sticks. Tears traced down my cheeks and dropped onto her tiny head.

‘God, rescue this baby. Please give her a hope and future.’ After committing her to God, I left. I never expected to see her again. Before she was two years old, she and her brother became my grandchildren.

‘God! That wasn’t what I meant. Why can’t You answer my prayers without my involvement? You are God.’

‘You are my body.’

I knew the Biblical teaching, but it’s a metaphor–a teaching tool to help us understand, an image to encourage us to honor each other.

God continued to challenge my heart. ‘You are my hands and my feet. When you prayed, you were my heart of compassion. When I answered, I looked for a member of my body to bring that answer. You've asked me for grandchildren to love.’

How I love those two wonderful bonus children.

Moses held his staff over the waters, and they parted, later closing over the Egyptian army. The Israelites were free. Why did God choose Moses to lead? He shared God's passion about the Israelites’ plight. He was passionate enough to murder a slave driver in an attempt to rescue them from slavery forty years earlier.

The church is the body of Christ. He has no other answer here on earth.

What problem is He calling you to solve today? Does the problem seem too big? Is it terrifying? Is He instructing you to stretch out your hand, activate your faith and thus enable Him to move supernaturally? Just do it! The rewards are beyond what you can ask, think or even imagine.
