with a chill as sharp as any proverbial knife,
slicing and freezing with each pierce.
Winter came.
I saw it cold and heartless in a message
that left me reeling,
screaming silently at the unexpected intruder,
who came breaking and crashing
into the sacred hearth of my life.
Winter
stared at me
through the steel gray eyes of a wise man,
one who knows,
and in so few words
closed tight the door to tomorrow.
My mind stumbles in panicked lameness
as my heart’s frantic clawing
screeches against winter’s ice.
Like a child,
lost and moaning for a mother,
I cry for You
in the darkness of this bitter blizzard.
I am certain You are far away
until Your Voice
melts through the ice,
and the warmth of Your Hand
reaches mine.
“This way, Child, follow Me.”
Though icy wind’s razor teeth bite and pierce,
I feel Your sure grasp,
the grasp of my winter Sun.
Though cold night tries to smother me in darkness,
I know the Hand of the Sun.
Though Winter claims this flesh,
and despair’s sleeted shadows
trap my mind,
my spirit belongs to the Sun.
I am a Child of the Sun.
