“When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” His hearers didn’t like what Jesus was saying and argued back, eventually picking up stones to stone him, but he passed out of their midst. John 8:44-59.
Father of Lies and Angel of Light are two titles given to Satan which should have us on our guard. As we approach the end of time and Satan knows his time is short he intensifies his scheming and deception.
One of the signs of the end times, Jesus told us, would be that the whole world would believe a lie. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 talks about God sending a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and in Romans 1:25 we are told of those who exchange the truth of God for a lie and worship and serve created things rather than the Creator.
So, what are the lies enveloping the world today, and how do we know the truth?
Individualism would be up there, the belief that I am the centre of the universe, the world revolves around me, and everyone else must respect my rights.
How about idolatry? Serving created things instead of the Creator. What place do things like money, possessions, sport, appearance and our career have in our lives? What place does God have in my life?
The biggest deception of course is the teaching of evolution. This pernicious teaching tries to do away with God, to make him irrelevant, to say we don’t need him, never have and never will. From small beginnings in Darwin’s time to enveloping the whole world, in little more than one generation it has become the fashion and the symbol of sophistication; it has become the new religion.
“Scientists can’t be wrong,” the experts say, conveniently forgetting that scientists change their minds daily as ‘new’ evidence comes along. You can’t watch a wildlife programme without constantly hearing references to evolution with phrases like ‘as we all know’ and ‘millions of years ago’ and so on. Falsehood is normalised.
It becomes politically incorrect to teach the Bible in our education systems, but we can teach evolution. Not only teach, but push it, ram it down the throats of our children, and force them to answer exam questions with lies.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. That’s clear enough, and the following account in Genesis tells how he did it. How obscene for humans to be wasting billions of precious resources trying to find out how life began. I can tell them for nothing – God made it.
So why did this teaching take off so quickly and become so popular? Could it be because it does away with God? And therefore it does away with accountability to God who we will meet when we die. It is more comfortable to hide behind the belief that there is nothing after death. God gives an example in Isaiah 28:15 accusing the people of making a lie their refuge and falsehood their hiding place. What a shock when they find that what they believed is a lie? Do they ever doubt and wonder?
How do we as God’s children react in our society, how do we reach the people with the truth when they don’t want to hear it? As their minds have been poisoned, corrupted and harmed with Satan’s lies we must bring the antidote of truth, whether it is popular or not. It is only when we turn on the light that the darkness is dispelled.
Jesus said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life’. The work is God’s. The world may be dark and getting darker as the end times approach. Shine your light and watch God change the world.
