Of my comfy housecat situation,
I’d search monster.com
And scan Jobs CD Rom,
In search of career creation.
Luxury hotel posts position
For cat as a welcome addition.
Wealthy guests will spend sums
For bed warmers and chums.
Cat rentals are now a tradition.
Churches and breweries seek kitties.
Museums in all of the cities
And grocers agree---
Hire cats---that’s the key.
Even cats to serve on committees.
Artist’s model, ship’s cat, dust mop, doormat,
Movie star, mascot, mousetrap, salescat,
Witch’s assistant---(weird!)
Mayor, alarm clock…..…..beard…...?
Foot warmer, actor, service cat, fur hat.
Opportunities endless, I see.
But the one that is perfect for me.
The job I envision;
Yes, that’s my decision.
A bookend---that’s just what I’ll be.
The feline form’s often reputed,
And most say it’s very well suited
To grace books in your homes
Or collections of poems.
It’s indeed I say undisputed.
Would a Longhair and I make a pair?
Or pal with a plump British Shorthair?
Or perhaps a Ragdoll
Would be best of all.
Or bookend with a Rex debonair?
If paired with a gleaming black panther
I’d engage in my sparkling banter.
If he would but permit,
I’d display all my wit.
But could I expect him to anther? *
Paired with a pontifical Persian,
Would I long for an alternate version?
Chummed with a charming Chartreux,
Would I wish too, to be blue?
Or yen for escape and diversion?
If twinned with a Turkish Angora
Would I dream of a Sphynx from Andorra?
If I matched with a Manx
Would I gladly give thanks ?
Or consider it quite a plethora?
If matched with a regal Siamese
Would I long for a chatty Burmese?
Buddy with a Bengal?
Birman for a friend-pal?
Or duet with a sweet Balinese?
I’m raggin’ with a RagaMuffin,
Persian’s got me all a’puffin’,
Cavortin’ with a Calico,
Mau from New Mexico,
They’ve got me all a’fluffin’! ;-)
I pause in my fanciful story
And reflect as I take inventory.
I’ve a fabulous gig!
Yes, I’m dancing a jig!
Lordly housecat is surely my glory!
