Walking proudly in the Righteous Way;
Climbing confidently day by day
Enjoying the sunshine,
Feeling the breezes
Until my foot slips.
Checking my lines, retying the knot,
Fearing the dangers sin has wrought;
Shivering with cold,
Shaking with fright
When my knees give.
Grasping wet ropes and holding tight,
Doing my best in a desperate fight;
Flashing and booming,
Soaking cold rain
While my fingers grip.
Fraying twine rubs against the rocks,
Twisting and tying in half-hitch locks;
Frustrating tears,
Clinging to rules,
Till my hands bleed.
Struggling to find the way that seems right,
Crawling through mire, no path in sight;
Feeling alone
Praying “O God!”
When my will dies
Tumbling away from the Righteous Way,
Wondering why fates against me play;
Flailing my arms,
Screaming in fright,
Then my heart stops.
Expecting the worst of calamities,
Waiting for the end of reality;
Resting in Arms,
Hearing a Voice,
“With Me you’re safe.”
