I am consumed by you.
I must have the very best,
I will have what’s new.
New car, new clothes, new wristwatch too;
Thousand dollar tennis shoes,
Million dollar point of view;
I am of the chosen few.
Adorn me with the finest pearls,
Bathe me in pure gold.
Who cares if all that I caress
Leaves me feeling cold.
I only matter if I make
The front page of the paper
I’m only someone when I leave
Big tips for my waiter.
Image, image, in the mirror,
Can you make my conscience clearer?
Can you make me something that I
Will not have to fear?
Can you paint me poverty proof?
Place me under a crystal roof?
Make sure I keep all my loot?
Keep me from becoming moot?
Silk and satin spreads and sheets,
Silver silverware;
Golden roads that I may tread
To guide me everywhere.
I want, I want and I want more,
Please blind me from my doom.
Help me not to see the fact that
Consumers are consumed;
I will be too.
