‘Glory to God’ sings the angelic throng;
Shepherds attending their flocks are amazed
By outbursts of joy which the heavens displays
Announcing Messiah with breathtaking praise.
An outbreak of murder from Herod’s dark soul
Kills the innocent babes under two years old—
To kill the Christ-Child was his evil intent
Inspired by the devil, he aimed to prevent
The purpose of God in Messiah’s advent
Outbreak of new life in the many who heard
Him speaking and teaching God’s life-giving Word—
They walked with Him, talked with Him—each was His friend—
They were the ones He’d commission and send
To Jews and to Gentiles from there to world’s end.
An outbreak of envy from proud Pharisees
Who saw in His Word only dire blasphemies,
Traditions prevented their ears and their eyes
From hearing and seeing—in heart they despised
The Anointed of God—He was not recognised.
From women who watched Jesus bearing the cross
An outbreak of grief—Oh how great was their loss!
‘Midst all His suff’ring speaks comfort to them
Says weep for themselves and to not weep for Him—
What love Jesus has for the world of lost men!
But then comes the day!—An outbreak from the grave!
Death is defeated; no more we’re enslaved!
Should cause a great outbreak of worship and song
To flow from the hearts of all those who belong
By faith to Christ’s ransomed, glory-bound throng.
