As a Christian in the world today, are you subject to anger? Are there times where you can see your hands around the necks of people? Well the truth is we have all become angry or upset at one point or another in our Christian walk. Whether it’s been with our boss, our spouse, our children, etc. But what kind of anger was expressed? Anger of the carnal or of the spirit? You see the understanding of being angry is totally misinterpreted when the bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 7:9, “Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry; for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.” What does this verse really entail? Well if anger rests in fools, then Jesus was a fool. All of the people that fight for the gospels’ sake are fools! God forbid! We have to understand that the carnal mind is full of sin, which causes the anger in the carnal mind to become sin. But when Jesus became angry it was an anger of disappointment, a weight, something to try and make him stumble. One thing about it is that he could not stumble because he was and is 100% God! He was angry for righteousness' sake. Like a linebacker after the quarterback, Jesus went into the temple to see the people showing blatant disrespect to the house of God. In a spiritual anger he threw everything off the tables and made a playpen out of their belongings because he was disappointed in them.
Our problem most of the time is that we don’t know what type of anger to apply. Is it all right to be angry? Yes, but for the gospels’ sake, not our own righteousness! Your anger shouldn’t lead to sin but it should teach and be a form of discipline to them that mock the gospel.
When I look back over my life and see everything God has brought me through I have to thank God for his grace and mercy. Even though there has been times that God had to express his anger towards me and my filth! We don’t think about anger that helps us. Instead we thing about the anger that destroys us! Sometimes God has to show his anger strong otherwise, we would never learn. His anger in a way is His way of showing how much He truly loves us. But us as humans in our carnal mind, we are so emotional we don’t want to deal with it because the flesh is weak. But the spirit wants to do the things of God so its not difficult to deal with God’s anger when we’re in the spirit because we know and fathom that this is working for our good!
Anger! Is it good or bad for us? I challenge every reader to examine their self and see what kind of anger dwells in them. An anger of sin or an anger of discipline!
