to dart and take
the chocolate cake,
or swipe the pear
you've just left there?
The Pennys might, hear then this word!
Who may eat the custard curd,
all tacky-thick,
with just one lick,
or runny sweet,
a special treat?
The Pennys might, hear then this word!
Who may from the cat that's purred
steal all her cream
and fresh-caught bream,
or sardine toast,
her own "pot-roast"?
The Pennys might, hear then this word!
For Penny-big and Penny-small
and Penny-wide and Penny-tall,
are always looking for a crumb,
to stuff their mouths and fill their tum.
They've never had enough to eat,
of fruit and veg, or prime-cut meat,
of puddings, trifles, apple-tarts,
or cookies shaped like little hearts.
"There’s always room for more", they say
"But oh, alas, we cannot pay
for all we want to guzzle now,
and so we must be on the prowl!"
Thus be fair-warned, for this you've heard -
who just might take
your flame-grilled steak,
or eat your pie
or "cheese on rye" -
the Penny’s might, hear then this word!
