Pain shot from my left knee as my face nearly kissed the concrete drive. A hole awaiting concrete for a handrail post had snagged my right foot. Aches here and there also caught my attention.
Another four-letter word and it wasn’t LORD.
I staggered to my feet or at least tried. My glasses had flown along with my hammer near my vacationing neighbor’s car. The blood thinner my doctor had recently prescribed was obviously working. Blood covered my kneecap and had spotted my new walking shorts.
A four-letter word with an exclamation point came to mind and it wasn’t LORD.
No neighbors were at home or at least they stayed with their air-conditioning. No broken bones but my pride had suffered a blow. How, I don’t know, but even one of my diabetic shoes had left my foot, flying into the lawn.
LORD is the four-letter word that should have instantly come to mind. Despite declining health, he had given me a spark of knowledge and ability to construct the handrail for my wife who was at the hospital having chemo. I was building the handrail out of love for her but when a tiny accident struck, I fell back into uttering sinful man’s four-letter words.
Forgive me, for I should have called upon the name of the LORD.
