Retreat
The time clock reads five o’clock as I check out after completing a day at the office. Scurrying out the building door I quickly slip into the car; ignition; 20 miles of decompression as the wheels of the car roll on the ribbon of hot burning asphalt leading to my home.
Here it comes, the last right hand turn. The pavement changes from asphalt to rock as I pull down the one thousand or so feet of driveway, which culminate my day’s journey and deliver me to my sanctuary.
Ignition off, remove the keys, out the door, into the house, off with the professional attire worn for my day’s work and into splashdown- clothes.
Gulp down cool water grabbed as I dash through the kitchen and rush out the front entrance of my house. Grab the tube.
Gingerly, I navigate the wiry grass and sticks and stones on the path that leads to the lake. Taking the short jaunt across the hot, sugar-like sand, I plunge into---------the cool—clear--water.
Water rushes over my body to renew tired achy muscles and wash away the stress and strain of a day at the office. Every nerve tingles refreshing and stripping away my cares.
Puffy white clouds float overhead, ducks paddle around the pond, school kids wave from the school bus as it goes around the road at the end of the lake.
It is my moment.
Peaceful, serene moment of floating on my inner tube, kicking my feet in the water splashing to create droplets which glisten in the sun and imagining I am being taken away from the stress and strain of the day into my comfortable, relaxing moment of retreat.
