from prodigious heights
Into depths unknown.
Boast
Of your blinding beauty
And deafening songs.
Paint
Your own fantasy
Upon the canvas beneath you
Etch, forsake; stroke, wipe clean.
Compose
Upon the staves of drums.
Then rewrite the song of the Iroquois,
And study your score.
Invite
Adventure but grant no access.
Then playfully allow victory.
Once. Twice…
Asking
No guidance,
Create your own reality.
You,
One third triumvirate,
The ace on deuce
With your half moon smile
Ruling and awing the crowds,
Do not forget.
Your heart was imprisoned once,
Frozen under harsh caress
Because you are the creation.
He
Who makes the sun rise
Melts away your pride
And restores your flow again.
Your god is not the sun
For the sun is also created.
And though no one has tamed you,
The finger of God can halt
And wield you.
Onguiaahra! O, Niagara!
The veil of your sister cascades
To meet your feet.
Neighbors
Have failed to tame
Your American brother,
To alter his countenance
Or change his course,
And Yet
Your God is there, smiling
Upon your frozen, half moon beauty
before allowing you to run free,
Again
In such a moment,
He shows Himself through you.
He stopped the sun and moon once.
Could he not stop and start you?
Yes,
For He alters me too,
As I have leapt and boasted, painted, Invited, Listened and remembered
That I am His creation.
For
I have flowed
Through His gentle hands
At times frozen there,
At others, an unbroken stream,
Opening and closing
Ebbing and rushing
But always, always,
Like you,
Flowing
In the direction of His will.

Simply lovely. I read again to savor it. I love "the ace on deuce". Very special.
This poem has beautiful imagery and I love its structure...the poet addressing the country is a marvelous idea. Just beautiful!
Awesome, awesome writing.
May you continue to write to Glorify Him.
