Next week, Bill has knee replacement surgery. That means the decorating, shopping, cooking, wrapping . . . in short, everything will be on my plate this time. No help at all. I crawl into bed with all these thoughts crowding my mind. As I drift into sleep mode, the dream begins.
A Guided Tour
Together, we walk the streets
of Christmas, blinded by glitz and glitter,
deafened by merry music's blast,
pressed by human frenzy.
'Where's your whip, Lord?" I ask.
"Are you not angry at this mockery?"
"Come," he says. "Come with me.
See that star out on the hillside?
Is it not the star of Bethlehem?
See the wonder in children's eyes?
Use it to tell them who I am.
See the lights wrapped around trees,
tracing roof-lines, windows and driveways?
Do they not proclaim my birth?"
"What about Santa
and his reindeer?" I protest.
"Leave them be," he answers.
"They are of little worth."
"Listen," he says. "Hear that choir?
In every church, voices blend
with angels' chorus in heaven,
resonating the story once again."
At dawn, with renewed vision,
my heart swells with anticipation
and joy for the Christmas season.
