Impatiently we wait for wedding bells.
At last they ring our news with joyous peals,
And finally we know how oneness feels.
A year has passed; an argument ensues.
The honeymoon has ended, bringing blues,
Forgiveness reconnects us and we tweak
Communication lines we've let grow weak.
Then somehow seven years have come and gone
We're not so sure we like the lot we've drawn,
But when reminded of commitment sworn
For life, we stoke the fire, the flame reborn.
The whirlwind of work and children's needs,
The next few years of life a maelstrom feeds.
We whirl and spin, awaiting empty nest,
A time to be refreshed with relished rest.
But then, as peace and quiet loudly loom,
A total stranger sits across the room.
Perhaps it's time to seek a better fit--
No, patiently our oneness we re-knit.
Such self-control and patience, faithfulness,
Expressed in kindness, goodness, gentleness,
Will nurture godly love that will not cease,
Perpetuating joy and blessed peace.
