“I know. I’ll be right there. Let me get supper on the stove.”
“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
“Mama, it hurts my ears.”
“I’m almost done. Can you try to make him happy?”
“WAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
“Jesus looooooves meeeeeee, this I knooooooow.”
“WAAAAA!”
“For the Biiiible tells me sooooooooo.”
“WAA!”

“Mama, are we there yet?”
“No, not yet. Why don’t you kids sing a song?”
“I’m so happy and…JESUS IS THE ROCK OF… here’s the reason why…OF MY SALVATION…”
“Mama, I’m singing! Tell him to stop singing. I’m singing MY song.”
“You can both sing together. Listen to this,
Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice…
Rejoi-oice, Rejoi-oice, and again I say rejoice.
You sing one part and he can sing the other. It will sound good together.”

“Oh, that fire feels good. I’m cold.”
“I’ve still got water in my ears from swimming.”
“Are there any more roasting sticks?
“Here’s a stick. The marshmallows are on the picnic table.”
“Hey! Don’t blow on the fire. You’re getting ashes on my marshmallow. Now, it’s burning! AHHHH!”
“Watch what you’re doing! You’ll get it on my on my guitar.” Strum…strum…strum… “What song do you want me to play?”
“It doesn’t matter. You choose one.”
Strum…strum… “How about this?
Life is like a mountain railway…”
“I didn’t need the flashlight to find our campsite. I could hear you all the way from the outhouse!”

“Country roooads…take me home…to the plaaace…I beloooong…”
“Hey, guess whose voice is changing?”
“I can’t help it!”
“Yea, but we can tease you while it lasts. By next winter, you’ll be able to sing bass. Then we can have all four parts.”
“In the meantime, I’m not singing anything! Every time I open my mouth, I squawk like a goose. I can’t wait for it to change.”
“At least you won’t sound like a lady on the phone anymore!”

“What are we singing for graduation?”
“I don’t know. How about ‘Walking Through the Flames’?”
“No, we sang that last year. Let’s sing something different.”
“How about ‘May the Lord Find Us Faithful’?”
“That sounds good. Who’s singing alto?”
“Are we using the piano or the guitars?”
“I don’t want to play the piano, because then I don’t get to sing.”
“Maybe we can sing a cappella?”
“Do you think we can do it?”
“Sure. Let’s try it.”

“Honey, you haven’t signed up for special music at church for a long time.”
“I sang in the choir for the Thanksgiving Service.”
“But you have such a nice voice. You ought to sing again.”
“I just don’t feel like it.”
“I know Mrs. Bryant likes to hear you sing.”
“Mom, it’s just not the same without everybody else.”

“Wow! It’s really snowing outside!”
“When are your brothers coming home?”
“They said they should be here around ten o’clock, Mom.”
“I wonder if they are bringing their guitars with them.”
“Why?”
“It would be nice if all of you kids could sing at church. It’s been so long since you’ve all been together.”
“Sure! I’ll think of a song that won’t take too much practice.”
“It will be like old times…. Hmmm…mmm…mmm.”

Seriously, were you eavesdropping in the car when my daughters were little? Because they used to have "dueling songs" all the time--drove me nuts. All-dialogue pieces are hard to do, but this one's a gem.
