God bless the child that understands
Grandpa's faltering steps and palsied hands
And speaks a bit louder and clearer today
Knowing he strains to hear every word that we say.
God bless the grandson who seems to know
Grandma's eyes are dim and reactions slow,
So politely turns and looks away
When she spills her coffee at the table today.
God bless the granddaughter with her cheery smile
Who stops by grandfathers to chat for a while,
She brightens his day and never will say,
"You've told that story, twice today."
God bless the families who know the ways
To bring back memories of happier days;
And tell their grandparents, and make it known,
They love and respect them and they're not alone!
Wait one minute more, Lord, I've another request,
I have a Blessing for myself I wish to suggest.
I have one grandson, he's in Baghdad, Iraq,
And I'll be forever grateful...if You see he gets back.
Interesting Information:
Jesus' grandfather was named Heli'.(Luke 3:23)

One thought for critique: I didn't think the title really has much to do with the poem...
Great job! Keep up the good work!
Blessings,
Ben
