It took me (and probably you, too) way too long to realize this writing dream. I couldn’t believe that God would “let” me write and bring such hope to my own life through it. But as soon as I told Him that I believed, finally, that it was okay with Him that I wrote, it’s like a huge gift began to slowly and wonderfully unwrap itself. I met new friends online from all over the world who also were gifted with this desire and ability that we’re trying to hone into a craft.
I have scoured books, devoured them, as I attempted to learn this great craft. I came across some incredible advice, learned so many new things, but some things stood out. One in particular I want to share. It is from “Walden, or Life in the Woods”, by Henry David Thoreau. And I quote:
“I learned this, at least, by my experiment (after living in the woods alone for a time and having the unlimited time to discover and contemplate). That if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined; he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him, or the old laws will be expanded, and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them…”
