Topic: Write something suitable for CHILDREN (05/31/07)
When Rocky woke up as he was flying through the air. He landed and rolled to a stop in the grass beside a road. “This is fun,” he thought. The Sun was shining brightly and he felt it warm him in the grass. People were gathered on both sides of the road. They seemed very happy about something. All at once they began cheering and singing something. Rocky couldn’t exactly make out the words but it sounded very nice.

Rocky could hear something else too. It sounded like snorting, and every so often a hee-haw. There was a man riding on a donkey heading toward Rocky. He looked funny. He was too big for the donkey and his feet dragged on the road. The donkey didn’t seem to mind. In fact Rocky thought the donkey was smiling.

As the man got closer, the singing and shouting kept getting louder. Everyone was having a good time. The people were waving things that looked like green fans at the man on the donkey and throwing branches and clothes onto the road in from of them.

Just as the man on the donkey got to a spot next to where Rocky was, some grumpy looking men ran up to him. The donkey stopped and the grumpy men started yelling at the man to tell the people to shut up and stop singing. The man got off the donkey and looked around. The people kept singing.

The grumpy men jumped up and down and stamped their feet on the road. “Make them shut up!” they yelled.

The man smiled. Then he looked at the grumpy looking men. He seemed to be thinking for a minute. He picked Rocky up out of the grass. Rocky felt like he was being tickled all over and warm all the way through.

The man held Rocky up and said to the grumpy looking men: “If I told the people to be quiet it wouldn’t make any difference. If everyone of them shut up, the very rocks and stones would start singing about me.”

Something very strange started happening to Rocky. He felt like he had been filled with pretty smelling air and that he would just burst to pieces if he didn’t start singing. He was working out how to do that because he had never sung before when the crowd started singing and shouting even louder.

The grumpy men sputtered and jumped up and down and stamped their feet and then went away. The man looked at Rocky and smiled. Then he gently leaned over and placed Rocky back in the grass. The man got back on the donkey and started away. Rocky went back to sleep listening to the people singing: “Hosanna.”

Luke 19:40. I would not have thought of that verse in connection with children. They would be delighted to think that stones could sing. I can hear their giggles now. Very imaginative. I like it. A good message, too.

I've always like that verse about the rocks crying out. Your story is a good illustration for that verse. I liked your description of the man riding the donkey too. Thanks!

Wonderful, easy to read and understand version of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. Having the dog give an eyewitness account makes it even more appealing to children. Unique.

Just for clarification, Rocky is a rock not a dog.
