She first thought about horoscopes and their timely, interesting and helpful information. Horoscopes had played a big part of her life for a long time. The only thing was, so much of the predictions were wrong and in most cases didn’t pertain to her at all.
Then there was shopping. Now, that was something she loved to do; it helped her to forget her troubles and worries. Clothes, perfume and things for the home were always fun to do. But, after awhile shopping soon became boring and once the items were bought, emptiness returned.
She also went to see a psychologist years ago and that brought her some relief. But, once the sessions were done, she was right back to Square One, alone and empty.
Often, she talked with her husband about her problems and concerns and he was always a big help. Being married for over 35 years, Dan had helped her sort through many a problem. But, as helpful and loving as he was, there still was an emptiness growing deep inside of her.
Her hobby of sewing helped to wile away many a day but after days of intense sewing, a yearning for something more powerful and peaceful often taunted her mind.
Then, while talking with a next door neighbor one day, Maria felt something wonderful and new; something she knew she’d been searching for, for a long time. Nora, her neighbor, was talking about her husband Frank and how close to death he came just weeks ago. Their doctor had found a cancer in his stomach lining and it looked like death was near.
But, being good Christians for many years, they turned their fears and concerns over to God. Nora talked of her faith in God and His son, Jesus Christ and when she talked there was a peace that shown in her face and Maria began to feel something she had never felt before—feelings of hope, newness and faith that God and His Son were the True Sources of knowledge, peace, hope and everything good.
Why did it take her so long? She pondered. These wonderful feelings of God and His Son felt so right, so true, so real!
As fate would have it, three days later, Maria’s husband, Dan, came down with pneumonia and came close to dying. If it weren’t for her newfound knowledge and faith in God and Jesus, she knew she wouldn’t have made it through that terrible time. How beautiful God was! How timely and gracious having Nora share her faith with her--and at just the right moment...
Yes, she found what she was shopping for—a Life with God and Christ!
