In every aspect of life there is melody, harmony and discord. Whether we are talking about the physical world or the spiritual world, melody is the lead that sets the path that harmony must follow. Melody determines the rhythm, pace and volume of the tune, or process, and harmony strengthens the cord by giving on-key support. If harmony tries to take a different path, there is immediate discord and the people, or process, must get back on key or chaos will erupt and ultimately ruin the song that melody is singing.
Melody is usually carried by a select few people while most of us find ourselves in the supporting cast singing harmony. It is very important that we harmonize with a melody that leads us on a moral and ethical path. If we do not believe in the melody we follow, we will soon find ourselves in the middle of discord, and life will be miserable. We cannot, and should not attempt to follow a bad melody; it will eventually destroy us.
From the spiritual standpoint, God, in the Trinity, sets the melody for mankind to follow through His written Word, the Bible. When we as believers live according to His teachings by living a Christ-like life, we are in harmony with Him, and our lives have purpose and meaning. When we do not follow His melody, we find ourselves getting into sin, and ultimately self condemnation, because there is no harmony, and life becomes one off-key mess after another; one bad note often causes another. We find our insides churning because deep down in our spirit we know that we have lost the melody, and that it is our responsibility to get back on key; melody is always stable so if we are off-key, it is our fault
The best part about following God’s melody is that it is always consistent and never varies. If we follow His melody, we will always live in harmony. But if we do lose His melody, He makes it easy to get back on key. All we have to do is tell Him that we know we have strayed from His melody, and ask Him to forgive us. At that point, He will, and we will once again be in harmony with His eternal melody.
