Danni reached over and hit the â button on the bedside radio and stretched. She threw off the lightweight sheet and placed her feet on the floor. She stumbled to the kitchen and grabbed the coffee pot from its holder. As she filled the carafe with water, her thoughts were on the day ahead. Take Lindsay to work at nine; Penny needs to be at camp by six. Groceries have to be bought and a fresh bottle of allergy medication for Penny has to be picked up before lunch. She then wondered what she would serve for supper. Maybe a small roast, potatoes and carrots in the crock pot would be good. That way the kitchen wouldn't get any hotter than need be, and we could all sit together and enjoy a nice meal.
She glanced toward the counter. Her Bible and journal sat there, waiting for her to quietly start her day in the Word.
Walk with Me, Danni.
She considered her choices. She finished getting the coffee ready, set the timer for twenty minutes, and pushed the thoughts of the day out of her mind. She grabbed her journal and Bible and she sat to pray.
Come on Lindsay, It will be a great time, you have to come. There will be some drinking but you don't have to drink if you don't want to. Lindsay lifted her head from the container she was cleaning and looked at her coworker. She had met several new girls since she had started to work at the vegetable market. This was her very first summer job. The girls all seemed to get along well, even though they were new to each other. Lindsay hesitated.
Walk with Me Lindsay.
No, I am sorry, I don't think I will go. I don't drink. But thanks anyway.
Mom! Where are my shorts? The ones with the butterfly on them. She yelled. Penny was throwing her belongings into a bag and making sure she had everything she needed for camp. Six pairs of underwear. Check. Six t-shirts and bottoms. Check. Two swimsuits and one extra for Lydia. Check. Goggles, Bible, sweats, socks, sneakers, medication, sleeping bag, towels, toothbrush, toothpaste, bug dope and sunscreen. Everything seemed to be there. Except the one pair of shorts she really wanted. Mom probably didn't get them washed. She thought. Penny felt agitated and started toward the kitchen where she knew her mother would be found.
Walk with Me Penny.
As she entered the kitchen, her mom looked at her and said, Good morning Penny, did you call me? Yes, I was looking for a pair of shorts but I decided I have enough.
As Danni husband drove to work, he whistled and took a sip of his good old Tim Horton coffee. Ah, the small pleasures of life, He thought. He started to reflect as he did many days, on all the great things he enjoyed. His wife and girls, a home, a garage to tinker in. All of a sudden, a car came out of nowhere and cut him off, causing him to spill his coffee and change his direction of thoughts. He was about to shout and gesture to the other driver.
Walk with Me Tom.
Instead of showing his displeasure, he thanked God that he did not have an accident. Coffee could be replaced and his jeans could be cleaned. Thank you Father for Your protection.
Supper! Called Danni as she placed meat and vegetables on each plate. Everyone sat down. They held hands and Tom asked Penny to say grace. The family of four bowed their heads as Penny prayed. Dear God, thank you for the day You have given us and bless this food to our bodies and bless the hands that prepared it. Help me to be safe at camp and look after my family as we try to walk with You each day. In Jesus name, amen.
